Electroplating

Electroplating is a thin layer of metal that is set on a surface by an electrical process that involves oxidation-reduction reaction. Oxidation is the loss of electrons in an atom and reduction is the gain of electrons in an atom. Oxidation-reduction reaction is when oxidation and reduction simultaneously occurs. A half-reaction separately represents the reduction and oxidation parts of a oxidation-reduction process. Electroplating requires a power source and it transports electrons to the cathode. A cathode is an electrode in an electrochemical cell where reduction occurs. A anode contains the ultimate source of electrons and is in an electrochemical cell where oxidation occurs.
